Part of Aussie Summer Camps’Â core philosophy, is allowing teens to discover their confidence and independence in our global society.
Mobile (Cell) phones, tablets and other personal electronic devices are now an integral part of our daily lives. Our belief at Aussie Summer Camps, is that teens need to learn about appropriate and inappropriate usage. They need to become aware of the effect being buried in social media or texting has on those around them, as well as on their own level of engagement and enjoyment in any given activity.
We are also acutely aware that our campers are a long way from their families, perhaps for the first time, and that their families may be wanting regular contact to ease any anxiety.
With that in mind, Aussie Summer Camps does not prohibit personal electronic device usage. We do however, restrict it’s use during activities, and if campers choose to bring their own devices, we do not take any responsibility for loss or damage of those items (keeping in mind our location and regular contact with water). Cellular roaming, and mobile data are extremely expensive in Australia, and we recommend against it’s use.
Alternatively, we have 4 dedicated ‘skype home’ nights, where campers can connect to our wifi connection and utilise our computers if required. The wifi connection will be available for 30 minutes each day should campers wish to use their own devices. There are also 2 campers every day responsible for social media postings. These campers are subject to similar regulations and expectations as those that would be in existence in the work place. Approval must be sought from photograph subjects to be included in the day’s upload, and they must ensure there is no offensive material.
